Governor Beebe Declares State of Emergency in Response to Severe Storms and Flooding

LITTLE ROCK - Governor Beebe declared a State of Emergency Monday night in response to the severe storms and flooding that have impacted Arkansas and are expected to continue in the coming days. The declaration is retroactive to the storms that began on April 19.

Once the weather calms, damage assessments will begin and disaster declarations will be made for individual counties. This could take awhile in some parts of Arkansas, as water levels and flooding problems are expected to increase in the coming days. There is also a strong possibility of additional severe storms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

When the extent of damage is better known after daybreak, Governor Beebe plans to tour affected areas on Tuesday.
