Teacher Appreciation Week

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME -- GREETINGS:
WHEREAS: Many roles are filled by teachers, including listener, explorer, role model, motivator, and mentor. Teachers work to open students’ minds to ideas, knowledge, and dreams, and to make our public schools successful; and
WHEREAS: A strong, effective system of free public education for all children and youth is essential to our democratic system of government, and teachers keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship; and
WHEREAS: Considerable progress has been made in the Nation and in Arkansas in the social, technological, and scientific fields due to our system of free and universal public education; and
WHEREAS: Much of this progress can be attributed to the qualified and dedicated teachers entrusted with the educational development of our children; and
WHEREAS: As a crucial part of children’s educational experiences, teachers work side by side with parents and administrators every day to provide the best learning environments for their students; and
WHEREAS: Teachers use their skills to help ensure that our children have the resources necessary to become productive citizens and future leaders;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MIKE BEEBE, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim May 2 through 6, 2011, as
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
and I encourage my fellow citizens to honor and support teachers throughout Arkansas for their significant contributions to our children’s futures.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 21st day of April in the year of our Lord 2011.
