LITTLE ROCK – An interactive map that illustrates the rapid growth of jobs in Arkansas over the past three years will be an indispensable tool for recruiting industry to Arkansas, Governor Asa Hutchinson said today in announcing its launch.
The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) created the map to graphically communicate the state’s economic growth to business leaders who are considering expanding existing operations or moving to Arkansas.
“This map tells the story that Arkansas has been writing over the past three years,” said Governor Hutchinson. “It will be an excellent resource for Arkansans and prospective investors, alike, clearly demonstrating the rapid amount of economic growth Arkansas has seen since 2015. This is an indicator of Arkansas’ recent economic success and speaks to the momentum our state has worked to build and hopes to continue.”
AEDC’s map shows where the 15,834 new jobs are located and uses a time-lapse time line to track the growth since 2015. A mouse-click on the highlighted locations produces specific information including company name, the announcement date, the number of new jobs created and the amount of capital investment.
Businesses have created nearly 16,000 competitive jobs in the last three years through signed incentive agreements between the AEDC and 322 new or expanding companies. These companies will invest almost $7 billion in the state and pay an average hourly wage of $20.84.
“Arkansas has a great story to tell,” said AEDC Executive Director Mike Preston, “and this online map paints a vivid picture, allowing users to see the growth in a matter of seconds. This is a useful tool not only for site location consultants but also the public, state legislators and existing businesses.”
The Arkansas Job Creation Map can be found in the “Map Room” of the AEDC website – www.ArkansasEDC.com – along with several other maps depicting population, incentives, foreign investment, and various vital industries in the state.
