Governor Hutchinson Selected as Chair Of Governors’ Education, Workforce Committee

LITTLE ROCK – The National Governors Association named Governor Asa Hutchinson 2018-2019 Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee during its summer meeting last week.

The Committee is responsible for ensuring that the views of state leadership are represented in federal policy issues related to early childhood education, K-12 education, higher education, workforce development, and career-technical education.

“This appointment acknowledges that Arkansas is setting the pace for computer science and STEM education,” Governor Hutchinson said. “This opportunity is an honor that will allow me to demonstrate at a national level the state-directed initiatives that have served us so well in preparing our students for high-paying, in-demand careers.”

Under Governor Hutchinson’s administration, Arkansas has become known nationally as a leader in computer science education and for workforce training programs that are enlarging the state’s labor pool with highly skilled graduates who are quickly filling gaps that industry leaders have identified.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee will serve as Vice-Chair.
