Proclamation Request Guidelines

Proclamations are issued by the Office of the Governor to increase awareness of important issues across the state.

1. Proclamation requests and wording may be submitted using the Proclamation Request Form.
2. All proclamations must be submitted to the Office of Correspondence with at least a 30-day notice to allow for the approval process and the production of the document itself.
3. Proclamations may recognize a day, week, or month.
4. Each proclamation request MUST come from an Arkansas resident. This includes requests from national, international, or out-of-state organizations.
5. Proclamations are not issued in honor of living individuals or of organizations. Other forms of recognition for individuals are provided. For more information, contact the Office of Correspondence at 501-682-3623.
6. Proclamations must have statewide significance.
7. Proclamations should reflect inclusiveness, not exclusiveness, and recognize that the strength of our democracy is our diversity. It must not take sides in matters of political, ideological, or religious controversy, or individual convictions.
8. Proclamations are not automatically renewed. Requests must be made on an annual basis. If the request is for a repeat of a previous proclamation, a copy of that document should be included with the request form.
9. Proclamations are issued at the discretion of the Governor and must be approved by the Governor's Office.
10. Each request should include the exact wording of your proclamation. However, the Governor's Office reserves the right to alter the wording of any requested proclamation.
11. If your request for a proclamation is denied, you may be offered a letter from the Governor in its place.
12. Organizations are limited to two proclamation requests within the same calendar year. Please prioritize your requests.
13. Please do not make announcements or plans for the proclamation until you have received word of its approval from the Governor's staff.
14. Proclamations must not be used in whole or as part of a for-profit advertisement or commercial promotion.
15. All proclamations, once finalized, are posted on the Governor's Web site.
