August 01, 2024

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Today, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders congratulated Major General Jon Stubbs on his confirmation to Lieutenant General and Director of the Army National Guard.

“On good days and tough ones, I knew I could count on Major General Stubbs to lead Arkansas’ National Guard,” said Governor Sanders. “Congratulations to him on his confirmation to Director of the Army National Guard. He will be missed in Arkansas, but our nation is better off because of his promotion and leadership.”

“I am humbled and grateful to be confirmed for promotion to lieutenant general and assigned as the 23rd Director of the Army National Guard,” said incoming Director of the Army National Guard Jon Stubbs.  “Without question, I am a product of the incredible example of past Arkansas leaders as well as the formative experiences that were provided to me by the Arkansas National Guard.  I will take every Arkansas Guardsman with me into this next assignment and will work hard every day to make them and my state proud.  I also need to thank Governor Sanders for the remarkable opportunity to serve as the 54th Adjutant General for Arkansas.  This appointment would not have been possible without her selecting me to serve as a member of her cabinet.”

The President nominated Major General Jon Stubbs, the Adjutant General of the Arkansas National Guard, for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as the next Director of the Army National Guard at the National Guard Bureau.

Stubbs was appointed by Governor Sanders in January 2023 as Arkansas’ 54th Adjutant General.  He has served in uniform for almost 31 years and held various leadership positions within the Arkansas National Guard, the National Guard Bureau, and the Headquarters, Department of the Army.

Stubbs is the first Arkansas National Guardsman to be elevated to the federally recognized and senate confirmed rank of Lieutenant General and the first Arkansas Guard officer to be assigned as the Director of the Army National Guard where he will be responsible for overseeing all programs and policies affecting 325,000 Citizen-Soldiers in all states, territories, and the District of Columbia.
