Governor Hutchinson Announces Third AEDC Trade Mission to Asia; Focus on China and Japan

JONESBORO – Governor Asa Hutchinson announced today that he will be traveling to China and Japan next week as part of an Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) trade mission to meet with business and government leaders. This will mark the Governor’s third trade mission to Asia with AEDC.

The Governor announced the trip during a ceremony on the campus of Arkansas State University. Risever, a Chinese company, signed a memorandum of understanding with the state of Arkansas to open its first factory in North America. The company, which manufactures counterweights for excavators, will invest $20.5 million to build and equip its factory. Risever has pledged to create 130 new jobs over a four-year period.

During the trip Governor Hutchinson will visit Hefei Province to sign the formal MOU with Risever.

"These trade missions have proven to be incredibly beneficial to Arkansas’ economy," Governor Hutchinson said. “China has become a valuable partner with recent announcements in Arkadelphia, Fort Smith, Little Rock, Forrest City, and now Jonesboro, totaling more than 1,600 new jobs and over $1.4 billion in investments. Arkansas is developing a global reputation as a great place to do business, and it’s paying dividends. I am honored to showcase all that Arkansas has to offer as we continue to expand and develop our economy."

"Our world is becoming smaller, and foreign investment is the new normal in economic development," said AEDC Executive Director Mike Preston. "These trade missions allow us to strengthen existing relationships and build new ones with both businesses looking to invest in the United States as well as government officials. When foreign companies invest in Arkansas, they help us diversify our economy, create more jobs, and build our image around the globe."

Governor Hutchinson will leave October 31 and return November 7.
