SHERWOOD, Ark. – To celebrate Arkansas’ Summer Nutrition Programs, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders delivered remarks and helped distribute food at Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance’s Summer Nutrition Kickoff at Cato Elementary School.
As part of Governor Sanders’ broad strategy to combat food insecurity, Arkansas is proud to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Nutrition Programs, including the Summer EBT program which provides eligible children with $120 for food in the summer months. In its first year, Arkansas served more than 290,000 students through this program and is projected to serve even more this summer.
Under Governor Sanders’ leadership, Arkansas is the first state in the South to offer free school breakfast to every public school student.
Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance is a statewide non-profit organization that shares the Governor’s commitment to end childhood hunger and food insecurity in the Natural State. They have been serving summer meals to-go at the Cato Elementary School location since the beginning of June.
