Proclamation for Native American Heritage Week


 WHEREAS:  Native Americans in Arkansas and across the country are a unique and vital part of the tapestry of American life. Through their history and culture, they add their own special presence to our state and nation;
 
WHEREAS:  Tribal America is a cross-section of the old and the new, uniting age-old traditions with modern life in a way all its own. Arkansas’ Native Americans have contributed to our state since its earliest days and continue to add to the Natural State’s unique place in American life, and;
 
WHEREAS:  The third week in September of each year shall be known in Arkansas as “Native American Heritage Week” to honor the role Indian tribes have played, and continue to play, in our state. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim September 18-24, 2023, as
 

“NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE WEEK”

 
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 5th day of September, in the year of our Lord 2023.
