Sanders Announces Bentonville as Arkansas’ Capital for a Day on October 24th

TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME – GREETINGS:

WHEREAS:
    Bentonville, Arkansas, was settled soon after Arkansas became a state and served as the county seat of Benton County, one of Arkansas’ first established counties;

WHEREAS:    Bentonville became a town in 1873 and a city in 1905, and by the turn of the 20th century was a regional hub for agriculture and tourism. With the opening of Walton’s 5 and 10 in 1950 – what later became Walmart – Bentonville’s future success and growth were secured; 

WHEREAS:    Walmart became the largest company in the world and Bentonville grew alongside it, especially with the opening of an interstate highway and the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. Today, visitors arrive from all over to do business, enjoy the world-class Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and utilize Bentonville as a gateway to the Ozarks;

WHEREAS:    Governor Sanders’ “Capital for a Day” program highlights great cities around Arkansas like Bentonville and brings senior state government officials into town to meet with their local counterparts and to ensure that adequate services are provided to all Arkansans; and

WHEREAS:    Bentonville will serve as the second “Capital for a Day” under Governor Sanders and will momentarily serve as Arkansas’ seat of government.


NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby name Bentonville, Arkansas, our Capital for a Day on October 24th, 2023, and invite our senior state government officials to join me in a visit to the city.
